About ME

I am a physician and researcher at the University of Washington, in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine.

My research is focused on technology-based translational research, usually at the intersection of computer science and public health. My research currently involves finding ways to use commodity smart devices to address public health challenges. My current project areas include early detection of acute opioid overdose, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and incipient respiratory infections. The common thread running through this work is detection and anticipation of aberrant respiratory patterns for which there are evidence-based, time-sensitive interventions. To do this work I collaborate with the UW Mobile Systems Lab, colleagues in addiction and pre-hospital medicine and the Seattle Flu Study.
